United Airlines has unveiled a new digital feature designed to make airport navigation smoother and more predictable for travelers. The airline’s award-winning mobile app now includes a real-time TSA wait time tracker, offering passengers estimated security line updates across major U.S. hub airports.

Launched as part of a pilot program, the feature is currently available at United’s key hubs, including Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. By integrating this capability directly into the app, United aims to provide travelers with timely, actionable insights that help them plan their airport experience more efficiently.

The TSA wait time tracker stands out as a first-of-its-kind initiative among major U.S. airlines. Using data collected by the airline, the feature delivers regular updates throughout the day, allowing passengers to anticipate how long they may spend at security checkpoints. Travelers can also view estimated wait times for different screening lanes, including standard security and TSA PreCheck®, enabling them to choose the most suitable option.

Among its existing features is a suite of day-of-travel tools, including a virtual gate assistant and a detailed baggage tracking system that functions similarly to package delivery updates. These tools provide real-time notifications and help travelers stay informed about every stage of their journey.

The app also enhances the experience for connecting passengers. With personalized, step-by-step directions between gates, estimated walking times, and live flight updates, travelers can navigate busy airports more confidently. In cases of tight connections, the system even alerts passengers if flights may be held briefly to accommodate them.

Another notable feature is the integration with Apple’s Find My network, allowing travelers to share the location of AirTag-enabled luggage with United’s customer service team. This significantly improves the chances of quickly locating misplaced baggage.

United has also streamlined the rebooking process through automation. In the event of delays or cancellations, the app provides alternative flight options, baggage updates, and, where applicable, meal and hotel vouchers—eliminating the need for passengers to stand in long queues.

Additionally, the airline offers real-time weather updates through text messages, including radar maps that help passengers understand how weather conditions in one region may impact their flight elsewhere. This level of transparency further reinforces United’s commitment to keeping travelers informed.
