HOUSTON, April 2025 — Lummus Technology, a global leader in process technologies and energy solutions, has announced a significant leap in its digital transformation journey by acquiring the intellectual property and select assets of NAPCON, the proprietary digital solutions unit of Neste. The acquisition also includes the transition of key NAPCON team members to Lummus, ensuring continuity of knowledge and strengthening digital expertise.
In tandem, Lummus and Neste have entered into a Strategic Collaboration Agreement. This partnership guarantees ongoing digital services for Neste and its subsidiaries while extending the reach of NAPCON’s capabilities across Lummus’s global client base.
NAPCON is renowned for its advanced artificial intelligence, automation, simulation, and process control technologies. These tools are designed to enhance industrial performance by improving safety, efficiency, and sustainability in refining, petrochemical, and broader process industries. Over the years, NAPCON has evolved into a benchmark for digital industrial operations, meeting the increasing demands for safety and competitiveness in global production environments.
Leon de Bruyn, President and CEO of Lummus Technology, emphasized the transformative nature of the deal: “Our long-standing relationship with Neste has been grounded in shared innovation. Acquiring NAPCON’s digital solutions and forging a deeper strategic alliance with Neste are landmark steps. It propels us further into integrating AI-powered tools with our core process technologies to deliver unmatched operational performance for our customers.”
From Neste’s perspective, the transition is equally promising. “This agreement ensures the long-term competitiveness of NAPCON’s technologies,” said Markku Korvenranta, Executive Vice President and COO of Neste. “Lummus’s global position and experience as a hydrocarbon process licensor makes them the ideal partner to scale NAPCON’s impact. We’re confident that this collaboration will preserve and grow the NAPCON legacy.”
The agreement also brings together Lummus Technology, Lummus Digital, Neste, and Ferroman Engineering Oy in a strategic effort to enhance global digitalization. Lummus Digital — a joint venture between Lummus and TCG Digital — will play a key role in delivering NAPCON’s services, while Ferroman Engineering will provide project support and execution. Ferroman, with its strong presence across the Nordics, Middle East, and Americas, specializes in digital and automation solutions for the steel and process industries. The synergy between these entities is expected to catalyze digital innovation across several sectors.
“This collaboration marks a new era,” said Håvard Hansen, CEO of Ferroman Engineering. “By aligning NAPCON’s state-of-the-art technologies with Lummus’s reach and Ferroman’s execution capabilities, we’re positioned to rapidly accelerate digital transformation in the steel, food processing, and energy sectors. Our shared mission is to deliver smarter, safer, and more sustainable operations.”
Lummus plans to fully integrate NAPCON into its digital offerings by mid-2025. Once finalized, Lummus will offer NAPCON’s capabilities to its international customer base, while continuing to support current users, ensuring ongoing innovation and robust service.
