Lightspeed Systems Appoints Dr. Donal McMahon as Chief AI Officer to Drive Future-Ready Innovation

Veteran AI leader joins Lightspeed Systems to shape the next era of student safety, edtech, and data-driven learning environments

AUSTIN, TEXAS: Lightspeed Systems, a global leader in K–12 digital safety and analytics, has named Dr. Donal McMahon as its new Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO). The strategic hire underscores Lightspeed’s commitment to embedding cutting-edge AI across its platforms to deliver smarter, safer, and more engaging learning experiences for students worldwide.

Dr. McMahon’s appointment comes at a critical juncture for Lightspeed as the company accelerates its innovation roadmap. With deep expertise in AI, data science, and scalable platform development, he will lead AI integration across product strategy, internal operations, and customer engagement.

Dr. McMahon will also serve as Head of AI & Data Science at Genstar Capital, the private equity firm backing Lightspeed. At Lightspeed, he will spearhead initiatives like predictive analytics for student safety, AI-powered teaching tools, and real-time district insights to improve learning outcomes.

Previously, McMahon led a 300-person global team at Indeed, advancing responsible AI governance, job-matching algorithms, and platform optimization. Earlier in his career at Google, he contributed to large-scale infrastructure and predictive systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from Stanford University, along with degrees in Actuarial Science and Statistics from University College Dublin.
