On 20–21 October, Aalborg will welcome more than 300 leaders from across Europe’s space sector for a high-profile conference on the future of European space strategy. The event, organized by Aalborg University in collaboration with the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science, will bring together policymakers, researchers, and industry executives to discuss space security, innovation, climate monitoring, and Europe’s competitiveness in the global arena.
Key speakers include Andrius Kubilius, EU Commissioner for Defence and Space; Christina Egelund, Danish Minister for Higher Education and Science; Andreas Mogensen, Head of the European Astronaut Corps; Timo Pesonen, Director-General for Defence Industry and Space at the European Commission; Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former NATO Secretary General; and Marcus Wandt, ESA astronaut and Chief Innovation Officer at SAAB.
“In a very short time, space has become one of the most important political arenas,” said Christina Egelund. “From climate to security and jobs, space plays a role. From a European perspective, we must be able to do more on our own, and this autumn the EU Space Law and EU space program will be on the table. I look forward to these discussions in Aalborg.”
North Jutland has emerged as a hub for Danish space research, with 25 companies and over 800 employees driving innovation. Aalborg University Rector Per Michael Johansen emphasized AAU’s legacy: “In 2003, our students launched Denmark’s first nanosatellite. Since then, we have created world-class research and supported the growth of leading Danish space companies. Now we are ready to help shape Europe’s future in space.”
