FibreCoat Unveils Next-Gen Radar-Absorbing Composite That Could Revolutionize Stealth Technology
New fibre reinforced composite absorbs radar waves, promising advanced invisibility solutions for defense, aerospace, and space sectors.
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM | July 16, 2025 /EINPresswire.com/ — German materials technology pioneer FibreCoat has announced a major breakthrough in stealth innovation with the development of a new radar-absorbing fibre reinforced composite. The material, currently at the proof-of-concept stage, is capable of making military and aerospace assets—including tanks, aircraft, and satellites—invisible to radar detection.
Unlike conventional stealth materials that reflect radar waves to mislead detection systems, FibreCoat’s latest development absorbs these waves, rendering the object effectively undetectable across key frequency bands. This innovation redefines radar-shielding capabilities and could mark a turning point in military-grade cloaking and electronic protection technologies.

“This is a leap forward,” said Dr. Robert Brüll, CEO of FibreCoat. “We’re moving stealth technology beyond the limitations of reflection-based shielding. Absorption opens new dimensions in design, performance, and adaptability.”
Absorbing Radar, Not Just Deflecting It
FibreCoat’s new stealth composite is a thin, flexible radar absorbing material (RAM) engineered for broadband radar absorption. The material uses bicomponent multifilament yarns embedded in a matrix of PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate), carbon nanotubes, and Alucoat fillers. These composites are tuned for frequency-specific absorption, particularly in the critical X-band (8–12 GHz) used by modern radar systems.
The material achieves reflection losses of up to -40 dB, equivalent to 99.99% radar wave absorption, putting it among the most effective RAMs ever produced. Additionally, it maintains high performance even on angled and curved surfaces, a known limitation in existing stealth coatings.
During independent laboratory testing, the composite demonstrated ≥ -10 dB reflection loss up to 60° in Transverse Electric (TE) mode and 45° in Transverse Magnetic (TM) mode—a significant advantage for real-world scenarios involving movement and variable terrain.
Lighter, Broader, More Effective
Stealth technologies in use today often rely on thick coatings or specialized paints that only shield against specific frequencies. FibreCoat’s composite offers several advantages:
- Lightweight and flexible, making it ideal for vehicles, drones, and satellites
- Broadband absorption, covering a wider spectrum than existing materials
- High thermal and mechanical stability, suitable for harsh environments
- Scalable design, with engineered thickness ranging from 0.5 mm to 6 mm
In comparison to conventional RAM, which may require complex geometries or metallic additives, FibreCoat’s innovation outperforms rival materials by up to 100 times in effectiveness while reducing weight and production complexity.
“We expect this material to unlock new stealth capabilities across defense, aerospace, and automotive sectors,” added Brüll. “It gives engineers and designers greater freedom to create without compromising on visibility or performance.”
Commercial Availability on the Horizon
While the stealth composite is currently in its final validation stages, field testing is expected to conclude later this year. FibreCoat is preparing to release the technology to industry partners for integration into commercial and defense systems. Early applications include military-grade stealth platforms, drone cloaking systems, electromagnetic shielding, and next-generation spacecraft hulls.
Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Aachen, Germany, FibreCoat has grown rapidly, operating three production sites across Germany, Georgia, and Poland. The firm now employs 42 staff and continues to invest in high-performance, sustainable materials for critical industries.
Addressing Global Defense Needs Amid Rising Tensions
As global defense budgets increase in response to geopolitical tensions, demand is surging for stealth solutions that do more with less—more capability, less weight, and lower energy costs. FibreCoat’s stealth fiber composite meets these needs while introducing recyclability and modular production capabilities, making it suitable for wide-scale deployment.
The company’s patented fibre-coating technology, originally developed in 2014, allows the combination of metallic or polymer coatings directly during fibre spinning, producing materials that are strong, conductive, and sustainable.
In the broader context, FibreCoat’s portfolio also addresses major challenges in:
- Space: Lightweight EMI shielding for satellites and spacecraft
- Defense: Stealth and thermal insulation for battlefield assets
- Automotive: Heat protection and electronic shielding in EVs
- Construction: Advanced insulation with integrated EMI blocking
Moreover, FibreCoat’s energy-efficient production process uses up to 90% less energy than traditional methods and enables global deployment within two weeks, boosting supply chain resilience.
