Type One Energy and TVA Forge Agreement for Future Fusion Power
Pioneering a New Era of Energy with Stellarator Fusion Technology
In a landmark agreement for the fusion energy industry, Type One Energy has entered into a Cooperative Agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to jointly develop plans for a potential fusion power plant in the Tennessee Valley region. Utilizing Type One Energy’s stellarator fusion power technology, the project aims to revolutionize the energy landscape with the 350 MWe Infinity Two fusion pilot plant. The initiative could repurpose retired Tennessee Valley Authority fossil fuel plants while also supporting greenfield deployments, enhancing energy security and reliability by the mid-2030s.
A Step Toward Commercial Fusion Energy
This partnership expands on Project Infinity, initially launched by Type One Energy, Tennessee Valley Authority, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in 2024. Initially focused on deploying the Infinity One stellarator prototype at TVA’s Bull Run Fossil Plant, the project now encompasses broader collaboration, including siting studies, environmental assessments, licensing, and financing.

Strategic Partnerships and Workforce Development
As part of the agreement, TVA’s Power Service Shops (PSS) in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, will contribute to the modular manufacturing and assembly of Infinity Two. This collaboration enhances Type One Energy’s supply chain for stellarator fusion plants and positions Tennessee Valley Authority to benefit from future global fusion energy advancements.
Project Infinity also incorporates a workforce development initiative to build expertise in assembling, operating, and maintaining stellarator fusion plants. The Infinity One prototype, designed for 24/7 performance, will provide hands-on training opportunities, ensuring that Tennessee and Alabama remain at the forefront of fusion energy expertise.

The agreement complements Type One Energy’s recent technology licensing deal with Commonwealth Fusion Systems, reinforcing its mission to minimize risks and streamline the transition to a commercial fusion power future.
