Zoom is accused of invading people’s privacy!

Zoom is a U.S. communications technology firm, based in San Jose, California. It offers online video telephony and chats services via a peer-to-peer software cloud platform used for teleconferencing, telecom, distance learning, and social connections.

In 2011, Zoom was established by Eric Yuan, former Cisco engineer, and executive, who launched this software in 2013

Zoom was accused of invading the privacy of millions of users by sharing personal information with Facebook, Google, and LinkedIn, according to the lawsuit.

It also reported to Zoom that it offers end-to-end encryption and that it does not prevent hackers from zooming in.

The company denied any wrongdoing but agreed to improve its security practices.

The preliminary settlement, which also includes a provision that Zoom will provide specialized data handling and privacy training to its employees, is still subject to approval by US District Judge Lucy Koh in San Jose, California.

“The privacy and security of our users are top priorities for Zoom, and we take seriously the trust our user’s place in us,” a Zoom spokesman said. We are proud of the advancements we have made to our platform and look forward to continuing to innovate with privacy and security at the forefront.”

The suit was filed by Zoom Meetings paid subscribers in March 2020, and it is one of many legal claims filed against the video conferencing company.

According to the New York Times, during last year’s Covid-19 lockdown, a hacker gained access to an online Chipotle event in April and broadcast pornography to hundreds of participants.
