Sunset World Group Expands Commercial Strategy with New Distribution Channels

The Mexican hospitality company strengthens global partnerships and renovates flagship properties to broaden its reach in international tourism markets

Mexican hospitality company Sunset World Resorts & Vacation Experiences has announced a new commercial strategy aimed at expanding its presence in the global tourism industry. The initiative focuses on diversifying distribution channels, strengthening strategic partnerships, and enhancing the visibility of its resorts in international travel markets. The announcement was made during the Tourism Showcase organized by ANATO – Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies, which took place in Bogotá, Colombia, from February 25 to 27.

The event provided an opportunity for tourism companies, travel agencies, and hospitality groups to present new initiatives and build relationships with partners across the industry. During the showcase, Sunset World Group introduced its updated commercial strategy designed to modernize its marketing approach and reach a broader international audience.

This strategic transition is being led by Mauricio Leyva, who joined the company in November 2025 as Corporate Commercial Director. His role focuses on guiding the organization toward a more diversified marketing model that integrates new sales channels and expands collaboration with global tourism partners. Under his leadership, the company aims to balance its traditional sales model with new distribution methods that respond to evolving travel industry trends.

For more than three decades, Sunset World Group has established a strong presence in the vacation club segment of the tourism market in the Mexican Caribbean. The company’s resorts have traditionally focused on vacation club memberships and direct sales, a model that helped build a loyal base of returning guests and long-term members. However, as the tourism industry evolves and digital travel platforms become increasingly important, the company has begun adapting its approach to reach new types of travelers.

The new commercial strategy involves working more closely with tour operators, travel agencies, and online distribution platforms. These partnerships will allow the company to extend its market reach while continuing to maintain the core strengths of its existing membership-based business model. By expanding its network of partners, Sunset World Group aims to attract new guests who may discover its properties through travel agencies, booking platforms, and other international distribution channels.

A key element of the transformation is the creation of a dedicated Commercial Department designed specifically to support the company’s evolving strategy. This department is being built from the ground up to focus on developing relationships with key industry stakeholders and strengthening alliances with global travel partners. The initiative reflects the company’s recognition that collaboration across the tourism ecosystem is essential for sustained growth.

According to company leadership, the market has responded positively to the new strategy. Industry partners and travel professionals attending the tourism showcase expressed strong interest in the company’s expanded approach to distribution and partnership development. The initiative is expected to support the company’s growth in both the short and medium term by improving access to international markets and increasing brand visibility among global travelers.

In addition to updating its commercial strategy, the company is also investing in the modernization of its hospitality infrastructure. One of the most significant projects currently underway is the comprehensive renovation of Hacienda Tres Ríos Resort, Spa & Nature Park, the group’s flagship property located in the Riviera Maya region of Mexico.

The renovation project has involved extensive upgrades to approximately 96 percent of the resort’s facilities. Improvements include redesigned guest rooms, a renovated lobby, and updated restaurants and public spaces. The goal of the project is to enhance the overall guest experience while ensuring that the property remains competitive within the increasingly dynamic all-inclusive resort segment.

Modernization efforts are designed not only to improve comfort and aesthetics but also to incorporate new technologies and service concepts that meet the expectations of contemporary travelers. By updating its flagship property, the company aims to provide enhanced vacation experiences for both vacation club members and new guests visiting through expanded distribution channels.

Sunset World Group currently operates six hotels throughout the Mexican Caribbean. Four of these properties are located in Cancún, while others are situated in the Riviera Maya and Playa del Carmen. All of the resorts operate under an all-inclusive concept and are primarily designed to serve families seeking leisure-oriented vacation experiences.

The company’s focus on family-friendly hospitality has been a defining feature of its brand. Resorts offer a wide range of activities, entertainment programs, and dining options designed to appeal to guests of all ages. Activity and culinary programs are regularly updated to ensure that returning guests continue to enjoy fresh and engaging experiences during their stays.

Sunset World Group has a long history in the tourism sector. The company was founded by entrepreneurs who were among the early pioneers of tourism development in Cancún, a destination that has grown into one of the most recognized travel hotspots in the world. Over the past three decades, the company has built a reputation for delivering vacation experiences that combine hospitality, nature, and cultural exploration.

Environmental sustainability also plays an important role in the company’s operations. The group has implemented an Energy Efficiency Program that involves upgrading technologies across its six hotels to reduce energy consumption and improve environmental performance. These initiatives are part of the company’s broader commitment to responsible tourism and environmental stewardship.

One of the most significant sustainability measures implemented by the company is the use of clean and renewable energy sources. All Sunset World hotels are supplied with electricity generated by Mexican wind farms and geothermal energy plants. By transitioning to renewable energy sources, the company has been able to significantly reduce its carbon footprint while supporting the growth of sustainable energy infrastructure in Mexico.

These environmental initiatives complement the company’s hospitality strategy by aligning its operations with the growing demand for sustainable travel experiences. Many travelers today seek accommodations that prioritize environmental responsibility, and Sunset World Group’s commitment to renewable energy and efficiency programs supports that expectation.

Looking ahead, the company aims to continue strengthening its presence in the international tourism market. By combining expanded distribution channels, modernized resort facilities, and sustainable operational practices, Sunset World Group seeks to position itself as a competitive player in the global hospitality sector.

The new commercial strategy represents an important step in this direction. Through stronger partnerships with travel agencies, tour operators, and digital booking platforms, the company hopes to introduce its resorts to new audiences while maintaining the loyalty of its existing members and returning guests.

As global tourism continues to evolve, hospitality companies must adapt to changing traveler preferences and emerging technologies. Sunset World Group’s latest initiatives demonstrate how established tourism brands can evolve their business models while preserving the values and experiences that have defined their success for decades.
