Geely Auto Champions Safety and AI at Auto Shanghai 2025

From AI-driven SUVs to the world’s largest safety lab, Geely redefines innovation and mobility for a safer and smarter tomorrow

Geely Auto made a bold statement at Auto Shanghai 2025, unveiling a wave of pioneering advancements centered on safety and artificial intelligence, reinforcing its vision of “AI for All, All for Safety.” At the forefront of these announcements were three game-changing initiatives: the debut of a revolutionary SUV prototype, the launch of its proprietary Golden Short Blade Battery, and the establishment of the world’s largest independent safety research center.

Leading the showcase was the Galaxy Cruiser, Geely’s latest SUV prototype engineered with a comprehensive AI backbone. This rugged, tech-integrated vehicle is designed to operate seamlessly in three modes—pure electric, hybrid and extended-range—adapting dynamically to different terrains and real-time driving conditions. It also introduces a new benchmark in intelligent mobility with an AI-enabled four-wheel drive system that enhances responsiveness and control across both urban and off-road landscapes.

TTrue to Geely’s safety-first mission, the Galaxy Cruiser is embedded with five breakthrough protections: prevention of control loss, fire hazards, connectivity disruptions, collisions and even submersion-related failures. Its standout capability lies in a next-generation “full-power” digital chassis, enabling advanced maneuvers such as autonomous drifting, on-the-spot turning and crab walking. Most notably, this vehicle is engineered to float on water for up to two hours, cruising at over 8.5 kilometers per hour—thanks to a unique onboard sonar and water radar system, a first in the industry.

Complementing this innovation is Geely’s Golden Short Blade Battery—a self-developed, self-manufactured power source built with patented bulletproof materials. Designed to resist deformation, ignition and explosion, this battery ensures both performance and safety under extreme conditions. It also powers the Galaxy Cruiser’s high-demand AI systems while reinforcing vehicle integrity in critical situations.

In an ambitious move to lead battery technology advancements, Geely announced the formation of JiYaoTongXing, a dedicated battery industrial group aimed at improving battery safety, energy density and fast-charging capabilities. This new initiative will further the development and deployment of Golden Short Blade Battery solutions across Geely’s product line and beyond.

Taking its safety philosophy to the next level, Geely also introduced the Geely Global Safety Center—a state-of-the-art facility poised to become the largest standalone automotive safety lab in the world. Designed as an open platform, the center welcomes industry collaboration, allowing other manufacturers to test, research and co-develop safety solutions. As a gesture of shared progress, Geely is also opening access to one of its key patents: a proprietary device for testing battery pack bottom impacts—crucial in establishing robust EV safety benchmarks.

These bold steps not only elevate Geely’s stature in the global automotive arena but also signal its deeper commitment to intelligent, safe and sustainable mobility. By blending full-domain AI with proprietary engineering, Geely is charting a course toward a future where vehicles are not just smarter but also safer and more accessible to all.

As the industry pushes forward into a more connected and electrified era, Geely’s message at Auto Shanghai 2025 rings clear: innovation and safety are not parallel paths—they are deeply intertwined, and the future belongs to those who embrace both.

In a rapidly evolving global auto market, where regulatory pressures, environmental responsibilities and consumer expectations are mounting, Geely’s strategy exemplifies forward-looking leadership. While many automakers are scrambling to retrofit AI into existing platforms, Geely has chosen to build safety and intelligence into the DNA of its vehicles from inception. The Galaxy Cruiser is more than a concept; it is a manifestation of a bold, integrated vision—where technology is not just an add-on, but a core enabler of a radically improved driving experience.

The combination of amphibious functionality, a resilient digital chassis and a bulletproof battery underlines the brand’s ability to engineer trust into mobility. Furthermore, opening its safety center and sharing intellectual property reflects a maturing stance on competition—one that prioritizes the well-being of drivers and passengers across the industry.

As AI becomes ubiquitous in cars, safety will define the new premium. Geely’s initiatives, therefore, are not just about outpacing rivals, but about shaping a global standard. This approach may well serve as a blueprint for legacy manufacturers and tech startups alike, as the world accelerates toward a mobility future built on intelligence, resilience and inclusivity.
