EcoEngineers Elevates Chelsa Oren to Lead Ethanol and Biodiesel Services

EcoEngineers has entered a defining phase of its growth story, and the promotion of Chelsa Oren feels like a natural progression in that arc. The clean energy consulting and advisory firm, now part of LRQA, announced her elevation as Ethanol and Biodiesel Services Director. It is a role that sits at the intersection of regulation, innovation and an increasingly complex carbon market. For a professional who built her career on making complexity intelligible, the timing could not be better.

Oren has spent nearly five years at EcoEngineers, and during that time she has become one of the most trusted names in compliance modeling and verification for biofuels. She started her journey far from conference rooms and carbon reduction frameworks. A trained geologist, she first worked in the oilfields of North Dakota, learning the industry from the ground up. Her transition to biofuels brought along the technical discipline and sector-spanning awareness that now define her approach.

Her new role places her at the helm of EcoEngineers’ fast-expanding regulatory and carbon intensity modeling portfolio. This includes guiding producers through the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard, California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard, Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations, emerging requirements under 45Z, and the broader landscape of voluntary and compliance-driven carbon markets. It is an ecosystem where rules shift quickly, markets evolve without warning, and producers cannot afford uncertainty.

Over the past few years, Oren has supported dozens of ethanol plants across North America. Her guidance has helped clients unlock millions of dollars in credit revenues by aligning them with eligible pathways, synchronizing registration and verification schedules, and securing D3 pathway approvals with minimal friction. Many in the sector credit her with bringing clarity to a world where producers often juggle five or more overlapping programs at once.

EcoEngineers CEO Shashi Menon captured this sentiment well when he said that Oren has an instinctive ability to turn complicated frameworks into clear, actionable strategies. His confidence in her leadership reflects a wider industry belief that biofuels producers need steady, informed support as regulations tighten and programs integrate.

In the months ahead, Oren will focus on strengthening EcoEngineers’ service delivery for clients operating under multiple programs. She is also streamlining verification processes and enhancing reporting and advanced market analysis capabilities, areas that will determine how efficiently producers navigate the next wave of carbon policy.

A major part of her mandate involves preparing producers for 45Z. With IRS guidance still pending, verification readiness has become central to future market participation. Oren is leading EcoEngineers’ efforts to build systems, documentation pathways and review processes that help clients stay ahead of emerging expectations. She is also refining the company’s multi-program verification offerings, including a bundled CFR and LCFS solution that reduces duplication and accelerates compliance.

Looking further ahead, Oren is shaping EcoEngineers’ preparations for accreditation under the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials. This would position the firm to verify biofuels, biogas, sustainable aviation fuel and synthetic fuels under the European Renewable Energy Directive, the UK Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation and global SAF schemes including CORSIA. It represents a significant step toward enabling clients to access international markets without administrative bottlenecks.

As she steps into the role, Oren describes the moment as both exciting and pivotal. She sees immense opportunity for producers who are prepared to operate with efficiency, precision and foresight. For EcoEngineers, her leadership marks an acceleration of its commitment to guiding the energy transition with discipline and depth
