COPENHAGEN, DENMARK — DeCarbon Copenhagen 2026 will convene Europe’s biomass, carbon markets and digital infrastructure leaders from 24–26 February in Copenhagen, creating a unified platform at a defining moment for the region’s energy transition. The event integrates the 9th Biomass Trade & Power Europe conference with CarbonSmart Digital Futures, fostering cross-sector dialogue across interconnected decarbonisation pathways.
As Europe navigates tightening climate policies, evolving subsidy frameworks and accelerating demand from digital infrastructure, the need for integrated energy and carbon strategies has become increasingly urgent. DeCarbon Copenhagen 2026 addresses these structural shifts by exploring how biomass markets, carbon removal technologies and low-carbon power systems can scale in parallel to meet long-term net-zero objectives.
The programme opens with the 9th Biomass Trade & Power Europe, focusing on supply chains, trade flows and demand forecasts across European biomass markets. Sessions will examine Europe’s decarbonisation crossroads, regulatory developments impacting utilities and district heating operators, and the outlook for EU biomass markets through 2030. Discussions will also assess global wood pellet and wood chip markets, port and logistics infrastructure, and Asia’s expanding influence on international biomass trade dynamics.
Industrial decarbonisation remains a central theme throughout the conference. Panels will explore the application of biomass and biocarbon in hard-to-abate sectors such as steel and cement, alongside the economic and operational challenges associated with scaling deployment. Dedicated sessions on bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) will address policy incentives, methodology development, carbon accounting frameworks and the status of live European projects.
From 25 February, CarbonSmart Digital Futures shifts attention to the rapidly expanding intersection of energy systems and digital infrastructure. As Europe experiences a surge in data centre development, power demand, grid integration and carbon compliance have emerged as pressing challenges. The agenda will explore low-carbon electricity sourcing strategies, energy storage integration, bioenergy utilisation, and the evolving role of natural gas paired with carbon capture technologies.
Carbon markets and carbon removal solutions will feature prominently across both conference streams. Panels will examine the convergence of EU biomass and carbon markets, pathways toward scalable negative emissions, and the integration of carbon removal credits into compliance and voluntary market structures. Further sessions will address monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) systems, registry interoperability, digital tracking solutions, credit integrity standards and corporate procurement strategies.
In addition, CarbonSmart Digital Futures will highlight public-private partnerships and regional cooperation models, particularly within Nordic and Baltic energy hubs. Discussions will cover financing instruments such as contracts for difference, blended finance mechanisms and investment frameworks supporting carbon removal technologies including biochar, direct air capture and mineralisation.
Designed to encourage practical exchange, the three-day programme will feature panel discussions, executive interviews, fireside chats and buyer-focused sessions. Energy producers, traders, utilities, data centre operators, technology providers, financial institutions and policymakers will engage in structured dialogue aimed at accelerating deployment and strengthening cross-border collaboration. Networking lunches, curated meetings and evening receptions will further facilitate connections among stakeholders.
Copenhagen’s reputation as a leader in low-carbon urban systems, sustainable digital infrastructure and carbon innovation provides an ideal setting for the event. By aligning biomass markets, carbon removal solutions and digital infrastructure under one integrated forum, DeCarbon Copenhagen 2026 reflects the increasingly interconnected nature of Europe’s decarbonisation strategy.
As energy demand patterns evolve and climate targets tighten, collaboration across sectors will be critical. DeCarbon Copenhagen 2026 positions itself as a strategic meeting point for industry leaders shaping the next phase of Europe’s transition toward resilient, scalable and low-carbon energy systems.
